Frequently asked questions.

Why did you write about Turkish Culture?

I wrote my series about a girl who wanted a different life than what was expected of her. As I began to write my book, I found Turkish Culture and quickly realized that it was the perfect setting for my medieval story.

I have become enamoured of this culture and Islam after an ancestral and spiritual quest. The rich history and geological placement of the country carry much intrigue and interest to my mind. Exploring the possibilities of this region and the people who inhabited it in the 13th century seemed extremely exciting to me as I began to write my story.

Do you speak Turkish?

Evet! Well, sort of, I have been learning how to speak and read Turkish for over two years now. It was a challenge that I welcomed during COVID and continue to face even now. Once I had decided that Türkiye would be my setting, I wanted to respect the culture by learning more about the language and the religion. I studied not only how to speak and read Turkish, but also about Islam and its influence on Turkish culture. I am grateful to have found an amazing teacher who lives in Istanbul and has given me a wonderful education.

What is most important to you about sharing this story?

My goal is to foster a dialogue about female empowerment that encourages individuals to remain open-minded to unexpected possibilities. I want women to realize their potential, even in cultures that may limit it. Communication and education lead to an appreciation of differences. Many Americans are not aware of the beauty of Turkish culture, and I aim to shed light on it as a beacon of hope for tolerance and acceptance.

Additionally, I want to debunk the myths and assumptions about Islam. After researching and learning about this religion, I have found that my initial understanding was a misconception in many regards. Islam is a beautiful religion based on love. The respect towards women is admirable, and when done right, the essence of Islam is honorable and refreshing.

Throughout my series, I aim to help readers discover a new culture, gain a fresh perspective, embark on an epic journey, and cultivate a desire for more knowledge.

Additionally, I want my readers to feel the connection between the characters. I want their emotions to come through on every single page. If my books touch others, then I have done my job.
